“There’s a reason we don’t see the world in black and white.”
Celerie Kemble
Using colour in your home is not the enemy. However, having too many colours in your home can end in an unfavourable result. Break away from the neutrals with a pop of colour here and there but keep it classy by using hues of a particular colour in all the rooms in a house or give each room a colour theme. It’s a lovely way to keep your home youthful but in a tasteful manner. This is often a technique that hotels use. White sheets are favoured as they are easy to wash and always make a room look fresh. However, a bare white or beige room can become monotonous. Beach side villas generally go with hues of blue to brighten up their rooms, while mountainous hotels opt for a warmer colour palette.
Pops of colour aren’t only restricted to rooms. Towns, cities and countries also use a particular colour to enhance their area. Greece, for example, make use of white with pops of blue. Whereas, the Netherlands love the colour yellow. Fashion designers also follow suit, such as Christian Louboutin with his red sole shoes or Vera Wang and her black wedding gown designs.
TOP TIP: To add pops of colour to a room, add coloured vases, chairs, stools, blankets or wall art of similar colours to tie a room together or create a funky room by use two contrasting colours such as blue and orange or light pink with navy. Use a 60/30/10 rules. Meaning 60% neutral colour, 30% secondary colour (pop of colour) and 10% tertiary colour (different shade of secondary colour or contrasting colour).
